Place de Furstenberg is a real public square located in Paris, which, in the wizarding world, houses the hidden entrance to the French Ministry of Magic, the Ministère des Affaires Magiques. To a Muggle, it appears as an ordinary, charming square with trees at its center. For witches and wizards, however, the location is a gateway. The magical entrance is concealed within the very ground of the square. When activated by a witch or wizard, the roots of one of the central trees animate, emerging from the pavement. They magically weave themselves into an intricate, Art Nouveau-style elevator cage. This enchanted lift then descends through the ground, transporting its occupants directly into the atrium of the Ministère des Affaires Magiques. The design of the entrance is highly ornate, reflecting the architectural style popular in Paris in the early 20th century (film).
The location features prominently in the search for Credence Barebone in 1927. Newt Scamander and Tina Goldstein are led to the square by a Zouwu that was tracking Credence's path. After observing another wizard use the entrance, they deduce its function as the gateway to the French Ministry of Magic. To gain entry and access the ministry's records on Credence, Newt and Tina use a flask containing what appeared to be Polyjuice Potion to disguise themselves before stepping into the square and activating the enchanted lift (film). Their infiltration of the Ministère des Affaires Magiques through this entrance is a critical step in their investigation into Credence's true lineage.
