Hogwarts Infirmary

Location Information

Description and History

The Hogwarts Infirmary, commonly known as the Hospital Wing, is the primary medical facility within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Overseen by the highly competent and formidable school nurse, Madam Pomfrey, it is a place of quiet healing and recovery. The ward is kept impeccably clean and is well-lit by its large windows. The Infirmary is equipped to handle a vast range of magical and mundane ailments and injuries, from common colds to regrowing entire skeletons. Potions like Skele-Gro and various healing spells are standard treatments. Madam Pomfrey is known for her strictness regarding visitors and her insistence on complete rest for her patients. While the Infirmary can mend broken bones in an instant and counteract powerful potions, it has its limits. Certain dark curses can inflict permanent damage that even the most skilled magical healing cannot fully reverse, as seen with Bill Weasley's scars from Fenrir Greyback and the permanent brain damage suffered by Gilderoy Lockhart.

Role in the Story

The Hospital Wing serves as a recurring and pivotal location throughout the series, often acting as a space for recovery, reflection, and crucial conversations where key plot information is revealed.
