Lord Voldemort, in his arrogance and inability to comprehend such forces, consistently underestimated its power, a failing that led to his repeated defeats.

• Lily Potter's Sacrificial Protection: The most prominent example of ancient magic in the series is the protective enchantment created when Lily Potter sacrificed her life for her infant son, Harry Potter. When given the choice to step aside by Lord Voldemort, she refused and died to shield Harry. This act of pure, selfless Love created a magical shield that was more powerful than any conventional defensive Charm.
