Parvati Patil
Introduction
Parvati Patil was a witch of Indian descent, a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the same year as Harry Potter. She was sorted into Gryffindor house and was the identical twin sister of Padma Patil, a Ravenclaw. Parvati is best known for being Harry Potter's date to the Yule Ball, her close friendship with Lavender Brown, and her membership in Dumbledore's Army. She was a brave student who ultimately fought in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Biography
Parvati and her sister Padma Patil began their education at Hogwarts in 1991. The Sorting Hat placed Parvati in Gryffindor, separating her from her twin who was sorted into Ravenclaw. She quickly formed a strong friendship with fellow Gryffindor Lavender Brown, and the two were often seen together, sharing a particular fondness for Divination. In her third year, Parvati's Boggart was revealed to be a bandaged mummy during a Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson. During her fourth year, Harry Potter asked Parvati to the Yule Ball after his first choice, Cho Chang, had already accepted a date. Parvati accepted and wore shocking-pink dress robes. However, the evening was a disappointment for her, as Harry was distracted and sullen, paying her little attention. She eventually left him to dance with a boy from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. In her fifth year, Parvati, along with her sister, joined Dumbledore's Army to learn practical defensive magic from Harry. She proved to be a capable student, practicing spells like the Reductor Curse. She and Lavender remained devoted students of Professor Sybill Trelawney, often taking her dramatic predictions seriously. Following the death of Albus Dumbledore at the end of her sixth year, Parvati's parents were frightened and considered removing her and Padma from Hogwarts. However, the twins persuaded them to let them remain, and they both attended Dumbledore's funeral. Parvati returned for her seventh year under the control of the Death Eaters and answered the call to fight when Lord Voldemort's forces attacked the castle. During the Battle of Hogwarts, she was seen dueling with the Death Eater Travers and was later hit by a Stunning Spell cast by Antonin Dolohov. She survived the battle.
Physical Appearance and Personality
Parvati is described as a very pretty girl with long, dark, plaited hair. She is identical to her twin sister, Padma. Her personality is often characterized by her close friendship with Lavender Brown. The two shared a love for gossip, fashion, and the subject of Divination. She could be easily offended, as shown by her frustration with Harry's behaviour during the Yule Ball. Despite her sometimes frivolous interests, Parvati demonstrated immense bravery and loyalty by joining Dumbledore's Army and standing against Lord Voldemort during the final battle.

- Lavender Brown: Her best friend in Gryffindor. They were nearly inseparable, sharing classes, dormitories, and interests throughout their time at Hogwarts.

Behind the Scenes
- In the film adaptations, Parvati was portrayed by Sitara Shah in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and by Shefali Chowdhury in subsequent films.
- A significant difference between the books and the films is the House placement of her sister. In the films, both Parvati and Padma Patil are sorted into Gryffindor for simplicity, whereas in the books, Padma is a Ravenclaw. (film)
