The Powakai is a fearsome, quadrupedal beast with a demonic appearance. It has dark, leathery skin, large pointed ears, and a long, slender tail. Its most prominent features are its glowing red eyes and a mouth filled with sharp fangs. The creature often appears to be surrounded by an aura of dark energy or shadows (video game).

As a guardian beast, the Powakai is exceptionally aggressive and hostile towards intruders. It is a formidable opponent in a duel, relying on its physical strength, sharp claws, and fangs to attack. It is strongly associated with the Dark Arts and is capable of inducing fear in its victims. Its presence alone is enough to intimidate most witches and wizards (video game).

The origins of the Powakai are unknown. At least one Powakai was placed as a guardian within the Forest Vault, one of the five Cursed Vaults hidden at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It served as the final obstacle protecting the vault's secrets, including a broken arrow and a map to the next vault (video game).

The Powakai does not appear in the original seven Harry Potter novels. Its role is confined to the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery mobile game. In the game, the player character, along with their friends, must confront and defeat the Powakai guarding the Forest Vault to break its curse and progress in their search for the Cursed Vaults. The duel against the Powakai is a significant magical challenge for the student protagonist (video game).

The Powakai is a creature created specifically for the mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and is not part of the original canon established by J.K. Rowling in the novels. Its design is unique to the game and contributes to the lore of the Cursed Vaults storyline.
