Description and History
Wizarding Britain is the parallel, hidden society of magical people living within Great Britain and Ireland. It functions as an autonomous community, largely separate from the non-magical, or Muggle, world. This separation is strictly enforced by magical law, primarily the International Statute of Secrecy, which was established in 1692 following intense Muggle persecution of witches and wizards. The society is governed by the Ministry of Magic, an independent governmental body headed by the Minister for Magic. The Ministry is responsible for creating and enforcing laws, maintaining order, and, most importantly, concealing the existence of the magical world from Muggles. The highest court of law is the Wizengamot. Wizarding Britain possesses a complete societal infrastructure, including:
- Economy: A distinct currency consisting of gold Galleons, silver Sickles, and bronze Knuts, with its primary financial institution being Gringotts Wizarding Bank, run by goblins.
- Education: The premier educational institution is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a boarding school
