Flitwick's Office

Professor Flitwick's office is the personal study of the Charms Master and Head of Ravenclaw House, Filius Flitwick. Located on the seventh floor of Hogwarts Castle, its precise position is near the base of the West Tower. The interior of the office is described as being very tidy. When Harry Potter is taken there in his second year, he notes that everything, including the desk and chair, seems to be sized for a very small person, accommodating Professor Flitwick's diminutive stature. The office's door can be magically secured, as Albus Dumbledore later claimed he had to “blast his way” inside to find it empty after Sirius Black's escape. The office's single window is its most significant feature, playing a crucial role in the events at the end of Harry's third year.

Role in the Story

The office features in two key moments in the series:

Professor Flitwick's office appears to be a single room. The books do not describe any anterooms, storerooms, or other adjacent areas connected to it. It primarily contains his desk and chair.

In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the location of Sirius's imprisonment is changed. Instead of being held in Flitwick's office, he is locked away at the top of the Dark Tower. This change creates a more dramatic setting for the rescue scene with Buckbeak. (film)
