Biography
Katie Bell began her Hogwarts education in 1989. By her second year, she had secured a position as a Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team, playing alongside fellow Chasers Angelina Johnson and Alicia Spinnet. She was part of the team when Harry Potter joined as Seeker in his first year and remained a fixture on the team for the next several years, contributing to many of Gryffindor's victories under the captaincy of Oliver Wood and later, Angelina Johnson and Harry Potter. In her sixth year, Katie joined Dumbledore's Army, an organization founded and taught by Harry Potter to learn practical defensive magic against the will of Dolores Umbridge. She participated in the training sessions in the Room of Requirement, proving her loyalty to Dumbledore and her opposition to Lord Voldemort. During her seventh and final year at Hogwarts, Katie was the only remaining member of the original Quidditch team from Harry's first year. After a Hogsmeade visit, she was unknowingly placed under the Imperius Curse by Madam Rosmerta, who was herself being controlled by Draco Malfoy. Katie was tasked with delivering a cursed Opal Necklace to Albus Dumbledore. However, during an argument with her friend Leanne on the path back to the castle, the package containing the necklace tore. Katie's hand made contact with the necklace through a small hole in her glove, and she was immediately afflicted by the powerful curse. She was lifted into the air, screaming in agony, before collapsing. She was sent to St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries for several months of intensive treatment. Katie eventually recovered and returned to Hogwarts in time for the final Quidditch match of the season against Ravenclaw. Although she could not recall who had given her the necklace, she recognized Draco Malfoy upon her return, which confirmed Harry's suspicions about his involvement. Following the fall of the Ministry of Magic, Katie, having already graduated, returned to Hogwarts through the Hog's Head Inn when summoned by Neville Longbottom's D.A. Galleon.
