Solomon Livius

Solomon Livius was a 19th-century Auror for the British Ministry of Magic and an ally of The Keepers. His story, told through a series of Pensieve memories, is central to understanding the history of ancient magic and the threat posed by the dark witch Isidora Morganach. The entirety of his known history comes from the video game, Hogwarts Legacy.

Solomon Livius's life was defined by the tragic fate of his younger sister, Anne. After Anne was grievously injured by a magical beast and left unable to feel positive emotions, Solomon and his family desperately sought a cure. They were approached by Isidora Morganach, then a Professor at Hogwarts, who claimed she could remove Anne's pain using a rare form of ancient magic. (Hogwarts Legacy) Initially hopeful, Solomon grew suspicious of Isidora's methods. He discovered that she was not merely removing pain but extracting it, along with other emotions, and storing it in volatile repositories of power. He learned that she was experimenting on students and intended to harness this power for her own ends, believing it could eliminate all suffering from the world. Solomon realised the immense danger of this unstable magic and allied himself with The KeepersPercival Rackham, Charles Rookwood, Niamh Fitzgerald, and San Bakar—to stop her. (Hogwarts Legacy) The conflict came to a head in the Undercroft beneath Hogwarts. When Isidora fatally wounded his sister Anne while attempting to extract her pain, Solomon engaged Isidora in a fierce duel. Realising she was too powerful and too fanatical to be reasoned with, Solomon cast the Killing Curse, taking her life to prevent her from harming anyone else. Wracked with grief and guilt, he and The Keepers swore to hide the repositories of ancient magic and protect its secrets from the world. (Hogwarts Legacy)

As seen in Pensieve memories, Solomon Livius was a man with dark, neatly styled hair and a serious demeanour. He was often depicted wearing the dark, formal robes of an Auror. (Hogwarts Legacy) Solomon was a principled and determined individual, driven by a deep love for his sister. Initially, he was desperate and willing to trust in unconventional magic to save her. However, his suspicion and analytical nature as an Auror led him to uncover Isidora's dangerous ambitions. He was pragmatic and resolute, ultimately willing to use one of the Unforgivable Curses to neutralize a threat he believed could not be contained by other means, demonstrating a grim understanding of his duty to protect the wider wizarding community.

  • Duelling: As a fully trained Auror, Solomon was a highly competent duellist, capable of holding his own against the powerful and unpredictable magic wielded by Isidora Morganach. (Hogwarts Legacy)
  • Dark Arts: Solomon was capable of casting the Killing Curse, one of the three Unforgivable Curses. This indicates he possessed significant magical power and the force of will required to cast such a spell. (Hogwarts Legacy)
  • Anne Livius: Solomon's younger sister. His entire motivation stemmed from his desire to see her cured. Her death at Isidora's hands was the defining tragedy of his life and the catalyst for his final confrontation with the dark witch. (Hogwarts Legacy)
  • Isidora Morganach: Initially an ally he hoped would save his sister, Isidora became his primary antagonist. He recognized the danger of her obsession with eliminating pain and ultimately killed her to prevent a greater catastrophe. (Hogwarts Legacy)
  • The Keepers: Solomon was a trusted ally of The Keepers. They shared the common goal of stopping Isidora and safeguarding the secrets of ancient magic. His Pensieve memories were preserved by them to warn future generations. (Hogwarts Legacy)
  • Solomon: A name of Hebrew origin meaning “peace.” This is deeply ironic given the violent conflict and personal tragedy that defined his story. It may also allude to the biblical King Solomon, who was known for his wisdom, reflecting Solomon Livius's sound judgment in recognizing the threat Isidora posed.
  • Livius: An ancient Roman family name. Its most famous bearer was the historian Titus Livius, known as Livy. This might allude to Solomon's role in the story, as his memories serve as a historical record of past events for the protagonist of Hogwarts Legacy to discover.

Solomon Livius is a character created exclusively for the 2023 video game Hogwarts Legacy. He does not appear in, nor is he mentioned in, the original seven Harry Potter novels or any other materials written by J.K. Rowling. His story serves as a crucial piece of lore and a cautionary tale within the game's narrative.
